Chinese New Year at Sentosa!

My day started off with an interview that was a total waste of my time. I applied for the job as a corporate communications executive not long ago, and was quite glad when i received a call to go for an interview. The first time round, the lady called me to arrange for an interview, and she followed up by msging the details of the interview, saying it was to be held at M hotel. One day before, she msged to say she needs to postpone the date for some reasons. When she msg me to postpone the date, i was kinda suspicious of the position. Like which company can be so 'flexible' in changing interview times like that. Therefore, i asked is this a sales job? She replied, 'oh you have to dabble in A BIT of sales, i will tell you more during the interview'. So i went, and when i almost reached M hotel, i received another msg from her, 'my event has ended at M hotel, could you please proceed to the Fuji Xerox building instead'. From there i knew it was insurance! I have nothing against insurance agents but i don't want to work in this line, and i felt that she 'cheated' me with the position of corp comms just to make me go down. The moment i knew it was insurance i felt that it was a total waste of time i went down because i really am not suited for this job. Wasted petrol, parking fees, and most importantly sleeping time. I realise more and more of this type of things are happening, like using bogus position names to lure people down for interviews when ultimately, they are just looking for financial planners. Names like client relationship executive, management trainee, customer service executive are used, and now there is something new, corporate comms! Why can't they just be honest and say they are looking for financial planners, and really attract the correct people that are truely interested in this line and not waste people's time by misleading them into thinking they are going for an interview for a position that they are interested in. And why say M hotel first then on that day itself change it to the fuji xerox building? Seriously full of crap. Anyways, the second part of the day did cheer me up.
After the interview, Susan and me proceeded to Suntec City for lunch, and we had dim sum........in the food court! Haha, you can get good food without having to spend too much money too ; )
After lunch, the 2 of us were too full, so we just did window shopping and walked around to digest our food. I went into charles and keith and saw the shoe that i have been looking for quite some time. Many outlets just didn't have my size, and the branch there didn't too. So the kind staff helped me enquire at other branches and walah! They had one at Vivo, i was so happy! And since we were going to Vivo, Susan and I decided to go to Sentosa to 'play'. Sentosa was not the usual Sentosa, there were lots of tourist this time round! Think it's because now is the CNY period thus resulting in the large amount of tourist. In a way it was a good thing because it created the holiday feel and just made the atmosphere more lively.
I wanted to go and try the LUGE, you know take the cable car like thing up and glide down on this manual go kart thing and i was quite scared when i was on that thing going up. It was so high up, and the cable car like thing was so flimsy, totally freaky man. But the view and wind was good, great experience i must say.
Afraid of rides, but not afraid of heights
Look how easy is it to fall out of that thing!
On ground and proceeding for our ride
All geared up and ready to go!
After the ride we went to Palawan beach to look for the rocky bridge and that very nice look resort look alike house for some photo taking session since we had time to spare before we go for dinner. It feels good to just walk around in the open and enjoying the surroundings and serenity, something that we won't get to do often if we start working (provided that we can find a job).
Crossing the rocky bridge
The walk back and forth make us start to feel hungry, and we went to a cafe by the beach which Susan assures is nice for dinner. And yes, i think its nice too with reasonable pricing.
Fish and Chips, BBQ Pork Ribs
Chilling by the beach after dinner
Susan looking like she just woke up
Picture by the beach to end off the night
I really enjoyed my day, and its been a while since i went to Sentosa as a 'tourist' to play since stupid leb always never wants to walk around with me haha. It feels healthier too to be walking around instead of always sitting down to eat and drink. I want to do this again!

Happy New Year 2009

I cannot believe that one year just passed like that. Stepping into my granny's house today seem so familiar, like i just went there the day before. Everything is the same, just that everyone seema to have aged. This makes me feel a little guilty as well cause i only see my grandma like once a year or on special occasions such as her 80th birthday. Guess this is a timely reminder that i should visit her more often. Anyway this year's start of visitation was at my own place cause my ah gong is staying here. Good thing because i can get to sleep longer and don't have to wake up so early in the morning to prepare. Managed to sleep till 11am on a CNY morning, feels so good.
The gush of The Little Nyonya has penetrated into our family with the emergence of two little nyonya's, namely my sis and evangeline. As for me, i was a big red fire cracker haha.

The nyonya lady and me

Here is the small nyonya

Kungfu boy and Miko
Our family; that is inclusive of Miko, but she didn't look!
At about 2 plus, everyone left my place and we headed off to my maternal grandma's side. This year feels a little different for me, I don't know why but somehow i feel that its a more friendly year. Talked to my cousins and aunties, but i mingled around the most with sweetheart joshua.
Yes...this is the sweetheart i am talking about
<3
Other than that, we had 2 dogs in the house this year. The little tiny silky terrier i saw last year has grew bigger, and was constantly being chased around by my other uncle's horny jack russell haha. Poor little thing was traumatised, and kept running to my cousin for protection. She did a little fashion show for us too...
So how do i look in denim?
Or is my burberry like shirt better?
I think i still look best in pink la
I stayed at my granny's place pretty long this year, all the way till 6 something before i went home for the second round of reunion. My mother prepared mee siam and popiah but i didn't have a great appetite today. Also i think the pounds and kgs are back to haunt me again so i'd have to watch it haha. Overall, this year was rather fullfilling for me. I didn't feel as bored as past years, and it was fun talking to my cousins whom i seldom have conversations with. And having lovely kids around me also makes CNY such a happy event. Tomorro will be at my auntie's place, hopefully it would be another round of fun catching up too, hope you guys enjoyed your first day of CNY too.

In order to prepare Miko for Chinese New Year tomorrow, i decided to give her a bath. Its been ages since i last bathe the dog, and its no easy feat. But Miko is quite a darling, she doesnt run about like a mad dog, neither does she keep moving around. Halfway through her leash came off and i didn't even realise because she just stood there happily, and allowed me to shower her. After her bath we left her by the gate to air dry her a bit and she smells so nice now = )
No, I don't feel like taking photos

I said i am not interested
Fine fine...make it quick please
OK. This is the best i can do for you.
How i wish i can bring her along for visitations but i guess she has to stay at home, but i shall buy her a big nice bone soon for her CNY gift!

1st round of reunion dinner

Since my sister got married, we have been having two reunion dinners every year so that we are still able to have our reunion dinner together despite her being married. This year we decided to eat at NUSS, not at the suntec branch, but the Bukit Timah one. This is my first time there and at the start i wasn't too fond of the place because the customer service was not as good as the one at Suntec, but after tasting the food I must say its good. Its slightly more pricey and more towards the fine dinning type so its not as children friendly with the multiple cutlery and wine glasses all over the place. The restaurant is situated in an old colonial looking building with a tinge of oriental look because of the timber decorations inside.
The building
Love the big gold plates
My sis and I
It was time to order and when I looked at the menu, i was already unsatisfied with the soup, definitely not something i would order on a a la carte menu, but nevertheless i decided to try. Turns out that everything on the menu was good and very refreshing.
I chose the cold appetizer which is raw salmon; my main was grilled lobster with assorted seafood and the dessert was warm banana with rum in crepe. As mentioned, the soup was seafood with green chilli chowder. And in between our appetizer and main course, the served some lemon sorbet thing with sakae jelly which was new to me; i thought sweet things were always left to the end.
I must rave about my main course, the grilled lobster with other seafood type like scallops, prawns, cod fish and clams. They were all freaking fresh and juicy! Every bite into them revealed something sweet and succulent, and they were all very chewy too which means fresh! Haha. Even the clams were not fishy and this is my first time eating chewy cod fish as well. Mmmm...next time if i want seafood, i will think of this place definitely.
The left-overs, nothing but shells
After our dinner, we went on to explore the lounge upstairs and were just hanging around the balcony. I found another nice chill out place ; ) Best part is its not crowded so we won't have to queue next time.
My sweet pea
Definitely a happy reunion
That marks the end of our first round of reunion dinner. Tomorrow it will be with the old foggies like my ah gong and aunt, but this year it would be in the garden i think. Doubt i'll take pics so see you all after CNY or after the first day, Happy New Year to all and Gong Xi Fa Cai! God bess!

Ring a ring a rose, a pocket full of posies

I brought the girls to this little cafe at Vivocity today which i personally have a very good impression of. The customer service is great, the flowers makes the place look alluring(in my opinion) and the food is good as well. Not those atas restaurant type but more of the homely kind, but i can say for sure that the price matches up to the food perfectly!

Even the name of the cafe is cute!

The range of flowers

I wasn't too hungry today so i just opted for a grilled chicken salad, hmm... not fantastic but passable. But i loved the tea i had. I can't remember the name but its something like green tea mixed with peach, blueberry and something else.

Grilled Chicken Salad

Amy had the set lunch of the day, consisting of a main course, freshly made mushroom soup, drink, and a piece of cake. I think it was only 12.90 nett or 13.90 nett, very reasonable right? Furthermore the soup is not those canned type but made with fresh mushroom.

Fried fish

Mel's pasta was good too. Very creamy and rich, not the typical 'gelat' type and its very fragrant too if you know what i mean haha.

Alfredo with bacon and mushroom

Mel very satisfied with her tea too

The day ended with shopping and i again splurged. I think i have a complusive shopping behavior now which is very bad! I need to be locked up at home and tame myself down, so chinese new year is here at a very good time. Firstly i will get more money, secondly shops will be closed to no shopping for me and visitation will take up my time haha. Anyways talking about shopping i just bought a new pair of shoes for running, and this is not splurging because i got it at a really good price! My new pair of adidas running shoes at only $60 bucks! Love it = )
