Radio show

Hi guys!

Today was my radio show, the final part to my Radio Journalism Subject. Really thanks to all who bothered to actually listen in. Everything went well other then a few hiccups here and there such as the music not playing when it should and having a minor confusion on who is to speak, but it was good! Really enjoyed myself. Besides, my teacher also said that it was done quite organised and good so pretty happy about that.

Us in the studio
My group members were terrific! Everyone did their part well, especially the panel operator Jessica. She only had a short training session of like 15 mins 2 weeks ago and she could still remember everything. If i were the one on that machine i reckon i'd have spoilt the machine or turned on the mic at the wrong times haha.

Jessica our dear panel operator

Our radio show was basically talking about youth related issues. Stuff like the new no smoking laws in licensed venues, the new Melbourne Uni model where many courses are going to be eliminated and the newP plate laws for driving that are going to be implemented over here in aus, and that was actually kylie and my pre recorded piece, so our "hard" work didn't go to waste = )The show was only for an hour and time just wheezed by when we were in there. It felt like it was only 15 mins or something haha.

I took on the role as the news announcer, didn't get to speak much but i was just happy that i am actually part of this radio production. Now i got something extra to put in my portfolio haha. The other 2 girsl, Kylie and Kirsten were the main players of the radio show and they had everything going smoothly, well almost, except for the confusion towards at the end, but that was just a small problem. However, during our time in the studio, there were these bunch of students which were the next group to go on air after us. Throughout our whole on air time, well almost the whole time, they were peering into the glass panels and not humbly peering but blatantly having their face smacked on the glass kind of looking and that was really distracting. So inconsiderate of them, my members were like kinda irritated. Felt like we were some exhibition in the zoo man. And my teacher was cool, she told us to do the exactly same thing back to them so they can feel how is it like as well haha.

The 2 host of the day: Kylie(left) and Kirsten(Right)
Well basically an enriching experience. My members were really nice and its my first time working with "ang mos" and i definitely loved the experience. They are a fun bunch of people and unlike those mean brainless bimbos you see in typical chic flicks. Well i believe they do exist but definitely not in this radio group of mine so thank God for that.

Kirsten, Kylie, Jessica, Vanessa
My wonderful team mates of Generation Y radio. Well the name for our show may sound corny, but that was our show. Generation Y, your radio station for youths! haha. Hope you guys that listened in liked the show. Will be getting the recorded show back from my teacher after she marks it, so if i can figure out how to actually post it up here i would = )

BUSY

15 May 2007

ITs been a busy week for me. Had lots of assignments due; major ones as well.

Media Studies(40%)

I guess this was my worse assignment. Dear friends of mine, you know how much i struggled with my "Introduction to Communication Studies" subject last year rite? This is like the sequel to it; another communication subject. Can anyone tell me what is a Critical Political Economy? That was somewhat my question and i didnt even know what i was writing half the time man. I always have a fear when i am doing this sub cause i just don't seem to understand the concepts and theories and i end up writing rubbish that i hope is right. Everyone that takes a communication subject in Monash tells me how much they hate it. Well anyone that begs to differ, feel free to voice out your strong objections. Well some of you might be thinking "why take it in the first place if you don't like it?" The answer is very simple, I DON'T HAVE A CHOICE. Its one of my core subject dearies = )

Academic English(40%)

Well this subject was much better. Not the grade cause i haven't got it back yet, but the process of doing it was overall more "enjoyable" Note: Essays are never enjoyable. I didnt have that much difficulty when doing this cause i could understand the readings better and the question i chose was pretty straightforward as well, BUT that was what i thought when i did my first essay which i got a Pass only if you guys remembered. Therefore, fingers are crossed and hopefully this time round my feeling will really be right. Leaving it in God's hands.

Newroom Practice and Theory(20%)

This is another subject i enjoy doing, cause again, its practical. i love doing practical subjects. It just seems more useful doing such subs cause it can definitely be applied to the industry. I had to write an article regarding a hard news issue so i chose crime haha. I went to the police station with my partner and did an interview with one of the sergeants there. My first time! haha cool stuff, really love this course that i am taking. The police over here are really helpful when it comes to providing information and interviews. Just a thought if i did this in Singapore, would the police just tell me "Sorry no comments" or "This is confidential" haha. Different cultures different answers but i still love my Singapore! Yea so got my article done and thanks Albert for your help in proof reading.

Radio Journalism(20%)

This is the fun subject. Due date was supposed to be on May 11 but we got an extension. Everthing was too rushed so me and my partner(Kylie) couldn't finish editing on time. There is still a lot of work to be done to our piece (including the need to get rid of popping sound; you know the sound that you make when you say words that start with p in a mic?) Its pretty tiring cause they are really small parts and to cut them out is not easy. However, this sub may be tiring but in a fun way cause its really practical so you won't feel bored when doing, just tired. But when the final product is done, you will feel a great sense of satisfaction.

Talking about radio, i will doing a radio show on the 30th of May on Monash Radio. This can be heard through webcasting http://radiomonash.net/. Come tune in if you guys are free, it will be on air from 1 to 2pm Singapore time. My role will be reporting the news and the 2 radio host and panel operator will be Kylie, Kirsten and Jessica respectively = ) Pretty excited for it! This is my first time doing such stuff so be sure to tune in if you guys are free yea?

That is more or less the "highlights" of my week. As you can see, all of the essays come at one shot. Finally i can more or less take a breather.

Memories..

Today is our dearest Mel's Birthday celebration and i cant be there to celebrate with her! Boo hoo! But time really passes very fast. The last time we celebrated her bday was at Sakae Sushi at Changi airport and it seemed like we just did it yesterday! Its her 21st this year, and did i mention, I love going for bday celebrations cause its such a happy event! Such a pity that i can't celebrate this significant day with her but anyways, here are some pics the last time round we celebrated her bday = )

look at the messy table...

Me and the birthday gal..

The guests at her bday dinner

Its been a year! Can't wait to see the photots she took today. Even though none of them would have my face.
Well happy stuff aside. I got back some of my essay results already and this sem i am really not doing well. My academic english essay, which i thought i would at least be able to get a Distinction or at the least a Credit, didn't turn out that way. i got a pass only = (

Hmm ..,but i guess i can blame no one, but myself cause i didnt put in enough effort?. And i know that is not the end to it, cause God can create miracles so i am not going to wallow in self pity and just do the next one (which is 40%!!!) and leave it in his hands.

But mummy was sweet, when i told her i only got a passed she told me she is already very happy for me cause i passed and maybe its a learning point that God wants me to know, haha so sweet rite! That is what i love about my mum, she never gives me pressure and is always encouraging. Daddy has higher expectations but he doesnt give me pressure as well, you know not like those parents that will go "huh? why pass only, how come so bad, why? never study issit???" So thankful i got parents that don't give me pressure.

The rest of my subs i got credit which i am thankful for but i don't feel exactly elated cause last sem i did better for my essays and i want my parents to feel happy and proud for me. But the battle is not over yet, i still got a chance to pull up my grades and forgetting i got the best army commander GOD! haha so nothing for me to worry.

Talking about hoping my parents will feel proud of me, it actually turned out the other way round! Daddy got an article written together with his professor published in a business magazine or something, about logistic outsourcing haha, dunno why when i see his name DR bla bla bla Teo on the mag i just felt so proud of him. It takes a great deal of hard work to be able to give my family a good life and i am really thankful to my Dad for giving me such a good life, never having to worry about anything. I will do that in the future when you and mum grow old too = )

I need an interviewee..

Well well well, i went to class today and realised that almost everyone has got at least one interview for the newspiece that they are doing and i am still stranded here haha. But i cant blame anyone, i am miss last minute so i can only do work when time is really pressing down on me.

Anyway for those that don't know what i am doing...I have to write a hard news article in the newspaper style. So i will first have to get very credible contacts but i seriously don't know where to begin! Since it has to be a hard news article it has to be serious, so i decided to use the topic on whether my school will adopt the US style model of education like MelB uni.

This is where the hard part comes. i need to find the vice chancellor or someone that is fit to represent my school. I called the media center and the guy told me that the vice chancellor is a very busy man and its hard to get to him. But well, this guy that answered my call was nice, he took down my details and told me he would try his best to find someone that can answer my question, but he kept repeating that the vice chancellor was a busy person over and over again, like he was afraid i didnt understand him or something. so i guess there would be a low chance of getting him. And guess wat? i even e mailed the education minister here haha, but i dun think they will have the time to actually bother about students here man. So i can only wait now, hopefully someone will get back to me or i will have to change my story.

But at least now i know someone is helping me search for a suitable correspondent, so i feel better, and the rest, i shall leave it in God's hands = ) He will provide for me somehow and i will tell you how he has after i got my piece done haha.

Went for dinner at Singapore Chomp Chomp today with winston. Its been a while since i went there to eat, and huey was on duty today. It felt weird to have her serving me but it was fun disturbing her! i kept saying i wanted to see her manager to complain about her haha, but duh of course i didnt. She finishes only at 9 so i didnt get to go back together with her, but now that i see her work, she is really so attentive and alert, definitely a good worker.

Tomorro i have no school so yipee! can sleep in late again, love doing that. Hopefully i don't suffer from another bout of insomnia again.
